Things that should be high on the list of things first year teachers shouldn’t have to go through
1. District evaluation processes that mimic the state’s new teacher program evaluation processes. WE HAVE ENOUGH PAPERWORK THANKYOUVERYMUCH. (This happened to me today. Evaluation, then meeting with new teacher program mentor.)
2. Students who shout “That’s GROSS!” when you explain that some scholars believe Shakespeare wrote many of his sonnets about a man. (This happened today. I had to tell the students, “I need a moment.” And couldn’t talk to them for a couple minutes. I was so disappointed.)
3. Lunch meetings with an AP and unprofessional peers who can’t get along. (This will happen tomorrow. I have to go as a member of this problematic PLC.)
Today was the first day I’ve ever wondered why I am a teacher.
It should be noted that my lesson plan today was RAD. The kids loved it. It made me happy.
Then all this happened.
